Alpenglow Mountain Festival

June 12, 2015 | Tim Hauserman

Alpenglow Sports in Tahoe City, is presenting the Alpenglow Mountain Festival Summer Edition from June 20-28th.  The festival gives folks a chance to participate in outdoor, human powered sports while enjoying the beauty of Lake Tahoe, and almost all of it is free. You can take lessons in a sport you have never tried, or just get out with like minded athletes to have fun running, hiking, backpacking, paddleboarding or practicing yoga. You can demo athletic products or enjoy one of several evening presentations with some of the best athletes in the world telling their fascinating tales. The emphasis is on low key doing, as opposed to hard paced competing. Spend the week in Tahoe and enjoy some of these fun activities:

Trail Running: Several trail runs will be provided including a fun run with Stephanie Howe, who was the 2014 winner of the Western States 100. While her idea of fun might be slightly different then the rest of us, she promises to take it easy on the normal humans.

Wildflower Hikes: Join the Tahoe Institute for Natural Sciences and the Tahoe Rim Trail Association for a pair of wildflower hikes. These guys are flower experts and know their stuff.

Bird Watching: Join TINS again as they pass on their boundless knowledge of birds on a birdwatching hike.

Hiking: Take a hike on the Rubicon Trail,  the Tahoe Rim Trail, or be a part of a Geology hike.

Yoga outdoors:  Almost every day you can start your day out right with a lakeside yoga class.

Stand-up paddleboarding: There are several opportunities to take a stand up paddleboard class or push your boundaries by trying a stand up paddleboard yoga class.

Backpacking: Head into Desolation wilderness for an overnight backpack trip led by an expert guide.

Evening presentations and films:
-Check out a presentation by Steph Davis, base jumper and sky diver and author of “Learning to Fly.”
-Watch the Trails in Motion Film Festival
-Catch an Evening of adreniline and ultra running, as the Donner Party Trail Runners presents the best films about ultra running.
