Get those kids recreating!

By Tim Hauserman

Looking for some fun organized activities for the kids to do this summer at Lake Tahoe? A great place to start is to pick up the latest guide to summer recreation programs of the Tahoe City Public Utility District. There is no shortage of amazing things for kids to do which will make them happy and tired, which of course will make you happy and refreshed. Here are some of the offerings.

Camp Skylandia
A day camp for a variety of age groups on the lovely off the beaten track Skylandia Beach in Lake Forest. Whether it is Bambi Buck-A-Roos, Kinder Kamp, Camp Skylandia or joining one of the great summer field trips the kids will love it.

But wait, there are more camps
How about trying the Kids Art Camp, Adventure Camp or beginning paddleboard camp?

Aquatics
Perhaps before hitting one of those along the shoreline camps your child should learn how to swim. They have Lil’ Swimmer for 6 months to 3.5 years old, Swim Lessons from 3.5 years and up, and Swim Team for Shark Level Swimmers at Granlibakken.

Heading to the Commons Beach
At the Commons Beach in the center of Tahoe City you will find kayak rentals, the Farmer’s Market, Sunday evening concerts and on Wednesday night, family friendly movies on the beach.

Sailing
The popular sailing program is a collaboration between the TCPUD, the Tahoe Community Sailing Foundation, Obexer’s and the Tahoe Yacht Club. There is youth sailing to learn the basics of sailing on Lake Tahoe, junior race clinics, junior race team, and open sailing for more experienced sailers.

Arts
Music lessons, beginning guitar and ukulele classes for kids are available, and Tang Soo Do and Aikido martial arts for all ages.

Soccer Camps
AYSO, Challenger British and Dave Fromer all hold soccer camps during the summer. They are geared for athletes up to 14 years old.

Baseball
The Skills Development Camp for kids age 6-13 happens in early August.

Golf
Youth Golf Clinic’s are held twice a week throughout the summer at the Tahoe City Golf Course. Once they learn the skills a season pass for juniors to golf all season is only $150.
