Wooden Boat Show returns to Obexer’s Boat Company

August 4, 2015 | Tim Hauserman

There is something special about a wooden boat on Lake Tahoe. Just watching one slowly putter along the west shore brings back memories of time gone by. A time when life was lived at a more gentle pace, and just being in a boat on a warm summer evening pondering the alpenglow was enough to make you happy.

While seeing a solitary wooden boat is a treat, once a year the best of the best in wooden boat land gather at the Lake Tahoe Concours D’Elegance. After many years in Carnelian Bay the show moved to Obexer’s on the West Shore last year. The event is presented by the Tahoe Yacht Club Foundation.

Last year’s event showcased over 70 boats with equal or grander expectations for this year. To those who bring their valuable pieces of wood art to the show this is serious business. Competition for trophies is fierce, and each owner makes sure to show their boat at it’s finest. To the rest of us we get a chance to get up close and personal with these marvels of craftsmanship. The boats are invariably meticulously restored, and polished to a shine. They just don’t make em like they used to. Be sure to make time to check out these mahogany beauties.

The 43rd Annual Lake Tahoe Concours D’Elegance is Friday August 7 and Saturday August 8 at Obexer’s Boat Company in Homewood.
